PRESIDENT’S MESSAGE
We had quite a nice turn out for our March Meeting.
Crystal Basin Bistro did a “DELISH ” job on our lunches.
Wine tasting in their Barrel Room was very informative as to how all the wines come to market.

Jane Loughry, one of new members has offered to do a new Photo Directory for us. We have so many new members and it is nice to put a name with a face. If you would like to be in this directory and have not yet had your picture taken, Jayne will be at the April meeting with her camera. IF you have a picture you would rather use please send it to Jayne.

MEETING MINUTES
March 5, 2014
Meeting was called to order at 10:33 a.m. by President, Mary Bourn. The Pledge of Allegiance was lead by Vice-President, Doris Morely. The minutes from the February meeting were approved by Pat Schoggins and seconded by Teri Munyon.
TREASURERS REPORT: Maureen Julian reported the bank account at $3,334.
TEAM REPORTS:
CRAFTS – Nanette Lewis said the Team will hold a meeting March 10, at 10 a.m. at her house. All club members are invited to participate.
FUNDRAISING – Mary Bourn asked for hosts of the Spring Tea Table Scapes. The tables would have a theme with a center piece. The Tea will benefit the LORA project of the Library. The Club will partner with Friends of the Library and will include a hat decorating contest, 50-50 opportunity raffle and themed raffle baskets.
GARDENING – Pat Schoggins stated the following have been scheduled: a general clean-up of the Community Garden on March 22, 10 a.m. The Latter Day Saints group will perform their community service day on April 26 with repairs to the garden boxes and gate. Pinewood School will be April 14 10 a.m.; library clean-up will be May 6, 10 a.m. and Sly Park entrance area be scheduled by Nancy and Tom Schulz.
MEMBERSHIP – Jeri Hartman reminded everyone to bring new members.
MENTORING PROGRAM – (formerly Hospitality) Marilyn Brown welcomed new members Diane Knight, Brigida Ysais, Kathy Staller, Jayne Loughry and Elaine Carpenter with a gift of spring Primroses and a card.
PROGRAMS – Donna Morrison reported that the April 2, meeting will at the Smith Flat House with a Farm to Fork theme featuring many local growers. Social time is 10 a.m. the meeting starts at 10:30 sharp. Lunch will be $22 all-inclusive except for wine. Make your check, payable to DGC, needs to be mailed by 3/26 to Jeanne Harper, P.O. Box 291, Pollock Pines, Ca. 95716. The menu is set and can be viewed on our website.
SUNSHINE – Janet Sullivan announced the birthday lunch will be held at 11:30 on March 12, at the Crepe Town Restaurant, 4064 Mother Lode Dr., Shingle Springs hostess for the luncheon will be Darlene Grosz. She also announced that June Short is now at the Placerville Pines facility and is on a dialysis treatment. Mary Simpson has had a setback. Barbara Thomas is recovering at home after having pins placed in her broken elbow. Billie Jordan is currently at home but will soon begin chemo treatments, she requests privacy. Ginger DeGregory continues to do well after her knee surgery. Janet will keep the Club updated on all members.
OTHER BUSINESS:
Maureen Julian announced links will be put into the Newsletter so that members can go directly to the areas they are interested in. The purpose of this change is to shorten the Newsletter when it is sent via email. Hardcopy mailings will be a complete printed copy. Maureen will hold a Facebook and iPhone class at Ship Shape, date to be announced later. A Facebook page has been created under the name Dogwood Club of Pollock Pines.
It was announced that this is the last meeting for member Darlene Grosz. She and her husband will be moving shortly to Elk Grove.
Guest Kay Campbell was introduced by Teri Munyon.
Sue Granno presented the historian book to last years’ President, Donna Morrison.

April Meeting
A reminder to those who plan to attend our wonderful Farm to Fork April Program at Smith Flat House on April 2. Remember seating is limited to 45, so send you check for $22.00 to Jeanne Harper made out do DGC as soon as possible. Quoting Jeanne “first pay, first served”. We do not want any disappointed members. We will have social time from 10:00 to 10:30 and the meeting will start at 10:30 sharp.

Notes from Our Members
Pollock Pines Friends of the Library
Used book sale, $5-per-bag, in the library foyer, between March 18-27, during regular library hours (Tues. from 12-7 and Wed./Thu. from 10-5). The library is located at 6210 Pony Express Trail, Pollock Pines. There will be hundreds of books for sale. For more info, please email beckydmc@yahoo.com. All proceeds benefit the library.

Fundraising Team
The Fundraising Team had their meeting on Feb 21st.
Our meeting was with PPFOL members Lajunta Inman and Becky McIntyre for planning our Spring Fling Tea at SmithFlat
House. This is a Fundraiser for our Library and is open to the Community. We decided on the Flyer and the events that will take place at the Tea. Becky McIntyre will be in charge of the tickets. Donna Morrison and Merle Neil will be doing our Tea Menu, The Flyers will be out soon but you can find all the information on the DGC WEBSITE. www.dogwoodgardenclub.org It is at the top of the page with the Tab that reads “Spring Fling Tea Fundraiser”
The tables will be in the round and will seat 8 people.
We are doing something new this year at the Tea. It is called Table Scaping.If you would like to “Host” a table or would like more Information on Table Scaping please contact me at mebourn@gmail.com or feel free to call me.
Our Fundraising Raffle Basket in March was won by Cathy Staller, who by the way did a Beautiful job of wrapping it for us.
The Raffle raised $151.00 and was donated to the Garden Team who will be using the funds to improve the Community Garden.
We will have another Raffle Basket at the April Meeting, our Theme for this Basket will be “FARM TO FORK” wait till you see it!! We are also going to have a “SURPRISE” Raffle .Hmmmm What could THAT be. TICKETS ARE $5.00 for 6 tickets.
Remember to bring your self addressed labels to put on the back of your tickets. You may also write checks for purchase.

GARDENING TEAM
The co-chairs for the gardening team are Marilyn Johnson, Leslie Sinclair and Pat Schoggins.
The gardening team met on Tues. 3/4 at Ship Shape USA. We had 16 members present. We discussed the upcoming cleanup day at the Community Garden set for March 22nd at 10AM and the day of service offered by the LDS Church in Pollock Pines on 4/26. The men from the church have offered their labor to build or repair whatever we need at the Community Garden.
We will have a work party at Pinewood Elementary School in the Memory Garden on Monday, 4/14 at 10AM. This is during their spring break. We will rake leaves, weed as needed and spread mulch. We have also scheduled a final clean up at the library on Tues., May 6 at 10AM. We will be cleaning up the front parking lot, cutting back the Hypericum ground cover alongside the parking area and raking pine needles throughout. Finally, Tom and Nancy Schultz discussed their plans for planting annuals in the Sly Park Lake entrance planters. They will advise if planting will be done in late April or early May. I will be sending out reminder emails to those who volunteered for each project as it gets closer. Please mark your calendars for these dates.
DECORATING TEAM
The Decorating Team has not met yet. We are waiting on more information on the tea, which will be our first decorating project. Meeting date to be announced.
CRAFT TEAM
The Craft Team met on March 10th and agreed meetings will be held the second Tuesday of every month; every other month will include hands on crafts.
