PRESIDENT’S MESSAGE
Dear Members,
The July Meeting at Palissandro Winery was a picture perfect day until………our sweet Virginia Bane fell and broke her hip.
Our hosts Shaun and Jeannie were so welcoming to our club. Everybody enjoyed our discussion on the winery and the tasting. Lunch was DELISH as we dined surrounded by beautiful roses and sunflower
Thank You Judy Jackson for arranging our day!
One of the items on our agenda was the need to form a Nominating Team for next years Board . Norma Ray said she would be on this team, but we need a team with at least 3 to 5 members. This Board will not be returning except for Maureen Julian who has offered to stay on as Treasurer. If you would like to volunteer to help find members to fill the positions of PRESIDENT, VICE PRESIDENT, AND SECRETARY please contact me or IF you would be interested in filling these positions please put your name forward.
We all enjoy the “SOCIAL and TEAM ” components of our club BUT can NOT have a club without a BOARD. We are a very established club in our Community and it would be a shame after 53 years not to be a round.
I am always available for any questions that may come up as you ALL consider your part in our club
Sincerely,
Mary Bourn

August Meeting
“Woods Lake Wildflowers” Our August meeting on Wednesday the 6th, will be held at Woods Lake. We can each pack a picnic lunch and beverage along with a comfy lawn chair to sit near the lake. There are large picnic tables but they are not grouped together; we’ll gather around one of the tables with our lawn chairs for the meeting portion. at 11:00 a.m. The parking area is very close to the lake and it is level ground to the lake, picnic area and bathroom.
There should still be wildflowers in abundance since they have a very late spring at 8200 feet elevation. I’ve been there towards the end of August and the wildflowers were beautiful. The area is stunning, so bring your camera. If you are able, you can hike around the lake as well.
You can arrange your own carpooling from the CVS parking lot at 9:30 a.m. It takes one hour to arrive at Woods Lake.
Directions are: From Sly Park Rd., turn onto Mormon Immigrant Trial and continue 25 miles to the junction of Highway 88. Turn left and continue a few miles to Silver Lake. Continue on Hwy. 88 for about 7 more miles and you will see Caples Lakes. About 2 miles past Caples Lake you will see a forestry sign that says Woods Lake on the right. Turn right into Woods Lake and follow signs to Lake parking. There is a $5 fee per car that is deposited in a receptacle so make sure you have the right amount.

Gardening Team
We will be meeting on July 15th at 11AM at Ship Shape to discuss the Community Garden and Daffodil Hill. Thanks to Maureen Julian, Leslie Sinclaire and Marilyn Johnson for watering our two plots. Due to the early high heat, much of the lettuce is going to seed quickly and the earwigs are enjoying the Chard. We will harvest what we can and not replant anything else due to the water situation. We do have 7 tomato plants that are doing well and will be ready to pick soon. We need more help from our garden team ladies with watering and picking tomatoes, then dropping them off at the community center between 10AM-11:30AM.
