The June 12th fundraising luncheon raised $3,085 for the Pollock Pines Camino Fire Safe Council. The Fire Safe Council is hoping for matching funds to have brochures made with fire defense information specifically for people living in the Pollock Pines-Camino area.
Team Reports:
Library Team (Marilyn Johnson): Friends of the Library will have a book sale at the Community Center’s July 4th celebration. $5 for a bag of books. All remaining books will be given to hospice because the storage shed is full. FOL bags are still available at $5 each. Funds from the sale of the bags goes to children’s activities at the library. They make nice gift bags.
Program Team (Choral Engstrom): Choral is hosting the next DGC meeting to be held at Bridal Veil Picnic Grounds just 5.7 miles east of Pollock Pines off highway 50. Please bring a picnic lunch, folding chair and plan to carpool. Cost is $8 per car. The picnic area has lots of easy to walk to table areas. Plan to arrive at 10.
Sunshine Team (Janet Sullivan): July birthday lunch is at Papa Gianni’s in Cameron Park on Wednesday, July 8th at 11:30. Billie Jordan made the arrangements but since she’s not around, please contact Janet and let her know if you plan to attend. We will get separate checks.
Birthdays for July: Barbara Thomas, Billie Jordan, Carole McNamara, Judy Cooper, Judy Jackson, Sue Granno, and Teri Munyon.
Joyce O’Connell’s husband, Tim, passed recently. Fond memories of him driving the DGC float.
Maria Mint is coordinating the celebration of life for June Short which will be held Tuesday July 14th at 11:00 at the Diamond Springs Mobile Park Clubhouse. Wear pink (her favorite color) and bring a salad or dessert. RSVP for this event to Janet Sullivan.
It is the tradition of the DGC to purchase a book for the library in memory of a deceased club member. Janet asked for a volunteer to pick out and order a book in memory of June. Although nobody volunteered, it was suggested that she talk to Leslie Sinclair who was very close to June.
Garden Team (Pat Schoggins): The outside reading area at the library is requiring minimal care through the summer. Barbara Mahach is taking care of July while Pat and Jane continue to blow the driveway. Pat asked for volunteers for the rest of the year. Norma volunteered to do August; Sandra volunteered to do September. Still need volunteers for October-December.
Daffodil Hill – Sylvia is organizing clean up day which will be sometime in the middle of July after the 11th. Jane will weed whack.
Decorations Team (Pat Schoggins): Nothing to report.
