New Business:
Boys and Girls Club – Maureen is working with Leslie Roy. A list was distributed of the school supplies to be gathered. Most can be purchased by club members at the Dollar Store. For the more expensive items and those that don’t get purchased, DGC has $300 reserved for the B&G Club to help fill their needs. The money came from last year’s bake sale and from Donna Morrison.
Boys and Girls Club Holiday Store – Maureen is looking for a team leader to help Leslie purge and organize the items left from last year’s holiday store and to come up with a list of items needed. She is also looking for a team leader to organize the decorating, granny elves, etc. at the holiday store the week before Christmas. Mary has the aprons from last year.
Holiday Gift Bazaar: DGC and the Community Center are co-hosting the holiday bazaar scheduled for Sunday, December 6th. We will have 2 free tables for fund raising efforts. Looking for our creative types to make 1-2 crafty items to donate for the sale. We will also have baked goods and will be selling Christmas boughs. Kim Sophia suggested selling boughs at the Tree Lighting ceremony the night before.
Teams:
Library Team – Marilyn: Good quality current books can be donated for future book sales (year 2000+). They made over $300 at the July 4th booth!
Program Team:
September meeting: Jeri is hosting the September meeting. It will be held at the El Dorado campus of the Folsom Lake Community College Master Gardener gardens off Missouri Flat Road. Jeri is hoping to have a tour guide lead us around. There are some picnic tables there but plan on bringing a chair. There is no cost. For lunch we can either bring a picnic lunch and enjoy it there or we can partake of one of the many restaurants on Missouri Flat Rd. More information will be available in the Bloomin’ News.
October Meeting will be held at High Hill Ranch. Details to follow. The November meeting will be a potluck at the Community Center. Tom Shultz will be raffling off one of the gorgeous drought tolerant rock garden centerpieces with funds raised to go in honor of Mary Simpson.
Christmas Luncheon: The luncheon will be held at the Log Cabin Cafe’s Sierra Banquet Center. There will be one entree – Chicken Scallopini with a non-dairy, vegetarian primavera offered offered specifically to those who would prefer it. Cost will be $25 and includes room and table decorations.
Sunshine Team: Janet couldn’t be at the meeting so Maureen gave the report – Birthday luncheon is on Wednesday, August 12th at 11:30 at Hog Wild BBQ in Placerville. Sandy Wilson is hosting so call her to RSVP. Birthdays for August: Barbara Mahach, Donna Folts, Lynn Fischer, Sandra Wilson and Sylvia Hamblin.
Annie Tournicasa has shingles. Would appreciate our best wishes for a speedy recovery.
Decorating Team – Pat: Bough making will happen Thursday, December 3rd 10-12. Need to collect more sugar pines and larger barrel pine cones. We will use the good ones for the boughs we sell at the bazaar and tree lighting. Kay has wire edged ribbon to donate.
Garden Team – Pat: Six members showed up at clean up day at Daffodil Hill. We got about half the hill cleaned up. We will finish cleaning and plant daffodils in late September/early October. Daffodils will be planted among the iris’. Library patio cleaning. Thank you Barbara Mahach for taking care of the library cleaning in July. Jeannie Harper will clean in August, Sandra Morgan in September and Norma Ray in October. A new rug was bought for the back door. Tom Shultz – Sly Park flower beds. Annuals are about done but it still looks nice. Will be planting glad and other color plants in Spring.
