Dogwood Garden Club Meeting
October 7, 2015
Minutes from the September meeting were approved.Treasurer’s Report: The club has $1261.Old Business:
Boys and Girls Christmas Store: Will be held December 7-11 from 3:30 – 5:30. Decorating will be done the morning of the 7th. Looking for granny elves and cookie, etc. bakers to participate. October 29th the Christmas present supply shed will be inventoried and cleaned out. Generally, gifts for men and siblings are those most needed. Also need tissue paper and gift bags. An e-mail will be sent out in early November to recruit volunteers for the Christmas store.
Christmas Craft Bazaar: Has been moved to December 13th from 11 – 3 at the Community Center. Will be hosted by both the Community Center and DGC. We are asking crafty members to donate 1-2 items for our fundraising table to help support administration and activities during the coming year. Donations of baked goods will not be turned down although there is concern about the Health Dept. Soups and sandwiches will be available for sale from the Community Center as in the past.
Decoration making: Maureen’s neighbors donated a large quantity of pine cones for us to use to make Christmas decorations to sell at the Bazaar. Pat will be coordinating a day for volunteers to get together to make decorations. We will also have a bough-making day to hang in the community and extras to sell. Pat will coordinate this activity too. We have gotten approval to sell our Christmas boughs at the tree lighting ceremony on December 5th in Reibe’s parking lot.
Team Reports:
Library Team (Marilyn Johnson): Nothing to report
Program Team (Norma): The next meeting will be held at the Community Center on November 4th beginning at 11:00 a.m. It will be a potluck luncheon. Instructions will be in the Bloomin’ News.
Sunshine Team (Janet Sullivan): October birthday luncheon will be held at Tortilla Flats in Placerville beginning at 11:30 on Wednesday, October 14th. We will have separate checks and parking is free. Tami Lee is hosting so please let her know if you are planning to attend.
Birthdays for July: Marilyn Johnson, Norma Ray, Tami Lee, Sandy Adams, Ginger DeGregory, Annie Tornincasa, Sandra Bird and Mary Bourn.
Based on a hand raise, approximately 10 people will attend.
Joy Heine will be staying down in Cuccamunga with her daughter indefinitely. Virginia Baine is doing well.
Garden Team (Maureen for Pat):
Daffodil Hill – Scheduled for Sunday, October 10th at 9:00 a.m. Bring water, shoes, and something to dig with. We will be planting daffodils, grape hyacinths and some iris.
Decorations Team (Maureen for Pat): Nothing to report.
Announcements/New Business: Maureen – The November meeting will include election of officers for 2016. Next year’s board to approve will be: Maureen Julian, President, Pat Schoggins, VP, Judy Jenkins, Secretary and Kay Campbell, Treasurer.
Teresa Burroughs through Lyons Real Estate is collecting coats for their coat drive. Will take any sizes. Distribution is through Green Valley Church so they will stay local.
Leslie Sinclair commented on the landscaping maintenance done by Maureen’s neighbors. The area is nice and clean now. Leslie suggested that if you see the couple at the post office, that you thank them for their work. Norma to send a thank you letter on behalf of the DGC.
