Dogwood Garden Club Meeting
November 3, 2015
Minutes
Meeting called to order by President Maureen at 11:55 p.m.
Pledge of Allegiance
New members: Joanie Van der Pool and Lou Miller.
October minutes approval: Marilyn motioned to approve the minutes; Ken seconded. Passed.
Treasurer’s report: Per Teresa, we have $1,145.
Old Business:
Boys and Girls Club Christmas Store – Will be held December 7-11 from 3:30 – 5:30 each day.
- Granny elves will be needed each day to help kids pick out gifts.
- Decorators will be needed on December 7th 12-3 to decorate the “store.”
- Cookie makers are needed to supply cookies for the kids once they’re done shopping.
A sign up list is going around for these volunteer activities.
Need tissue paper and gift bags
An inventory of the Boys and Girls club Christmas shed was completed on October 29th. We have quite a few Moms and Girls gifts. Could use more Dads and boys gifts. Thanks for today’s donations.
Craft Bazaar: Moved to December 13th, 11-3 at the Community Center. Need 1-2 donations from each of our crafty members and some baked goods to sell. Soups and sandwiches will be available for sale for lunch. Pat is organizing a group to make some pinecone boughs to sell at the Bazaar. We will also sell these items at the PP tree lighting ceremony. The funds will go to DGC activities and charities.
New Business:
2016 membership renewal forms are available.
Team leaders are needed for some of the teams. If there is no leader, there will be no team.
Election – Mary, AKA the nominating committee announced the slate of potential officers:
Maureen will continue as President
Pat will continue as VP
Judy Jenkins – Secretary
Kay Campbell – Treasurer
Following Roberts Rules, a white ballot was put forward by Bunny. Tom seconded the ballot. Approved by members. The slate was then voted on and approved by the membership.
Teams:
Garden – Pat – Bough assembly for the community Christmas boughs will happen December 3 beginning at 10 a.m. at the Community Center. 43 boughs are needed. Bough hanging will happen immediately after assembly. Maureen and Pat are also planning to make small pinecone boughs to sell at the Bazaar.
Library patio clean up – Norma did October; Mary and Becky are scheduled for November. A work party laid pavers and rerouted the drain. Daffodil Hill is done. All bulbs are planted and weed whacking is done thanks to Jayne.
Program – Norma – Christmas Luncheon is scheduled for December 2, 11-3 at the Log Cabin Cafe (Sierra Banquet Center) in Camino. Invitations were available. Cost is $25. Please indicate on your check if you would like a vegetarian meal. There will be raffles, a gift exchange ($10 max; something nice) and caroling!
Sunshine – Marian – Marian is hosting the birthday lunch this week at the Placerville Brewery. Please contact her if you plan to attend. Birthdays in November – Bunny, Becky, Anne, Virginia and Jeri. All are welcome!
Other Announcements:
Trees for Teens – Pat and Teresa – November 22-29 – Pat will be there first thing on the 22nd to pick us out a good tree to decorate. Will need 2-3 helpers to decorate. The money contributed goes to CEDAPP to support teens in the area. Donations made out to CEDAPP go to Teresa.
A big thank you to Ken for donating a big load of pinecones and other decorating items for us.
Marlene announced she is realizing a version of her dream to open a doll store. She is opening a doll museum in the church building across from Valero. She has over 3,000 dolls she is starting with. She hopes to open the doors in January 2016.
Lorraine announced our new celebrity – Virginia Baine. KVIE is featuring a program on Virginia’s accomplishments.
Marilyn announced that Lorraine is looking for blue jean donations. She is going to weave a rug with them.
Leslie announced that while at a garage sale with Marilyn and Sylvia, the home owner was selling pepper spray in very small containers that fit easily in your hand or purse. They are $6 per container. If you’re interested, contact Leslie.
June Deville’s DGC shirt went to a very happy Teresa!
Anne Mintmier won the cactus garden raffle that Tom Schulz created in memory of Mary Simpson.
