Minutes, October 5, 2016 Meeting

President Maureen Julian  called the meeting to order at 2:00pm.

Guests were Tom Sullivan and Bill Lee.

Janet Sullivan motioned and Tami Lee seconded the approval of the September minutes.

Treasurer’s Report $2756.57

Mary Bourn presented the 2017  DGC Board Nominees:

President:  Norma Ray

VP:  Marilu Blau

Secretary: Alexa Mack

Treasurer:  Carol McBride

Maureen reported that we are starting to plan the Boys & Girls Club Holiday Store. On October 20, we will do an inventory of what is need. Time TBA- we will need Members to help

DGC Community Donation Meeting- We have about $1500 that we will be able to donate to local organizations. There will be a meeting on Tuesday, November 1 at 1pm, the Old School House.  All DGC Members are welcome to attend the meeting. It would be helpful before the meeting if members could email suggestions to Maureen. In your suggestion, besides the name of the organization state why they deserve the donation. What impact do they have on our community; who does the organization serve (i.e. low income, the community as a whole); where do they get their funding (i.e. fundraising, donations, or none)

Maureen would like for the DGC members to participate in the Rotary’s annual Salvation Army Bell Ringing at Safeway during the holiday. It would be a DGC Day, two people per shift and shifts are for 2 hours. Mary and Maureen did it two years ago fun time (a little hot chocolate “spiked” with a little Bailey Irish Cream keeps you warm!!).  Talk to your friends and partner up!  More details later.

There was a thought about having Holiday Craft Faire with the Community Center, but it is too late for planning purposes as most craft vendors decide in the summer which ones they want to attend. We will try for 2017.

Norma reported about her productive meeting with the Rotary Interact Club at Sierra Ridge Middle School. This group is looking for community service projects to do.  Since we are looking for help with some of the projects DGC now are responsible for (Daffodil Hill and Library maintenance), a relationship will be beneficial to both groups.  .

We would like to find someone who would be willing to be the DGC liaison with this group.

Western Slope Card Project:  We are looking for more Christmas cards.  Mary Bourn will be organizing a fun-filled afternoon of helping the residents fill out cards.  Mary will be looking for volunteers.

Meeting was adjourned at 2:30pm
