2013-10 Bloomin’ News

President’s Message

Well, the smoke has finally cleared and the warm weather continues and here we are in mid- September.† Too bad that we had to cancel our trip to Woods Lake, but there is always next year.†

Our shed was cleaned out by a lively bunch of ladies on Thursday the 5th and many thanks to those who came and helped out.† It is now much easier to get into and looks very organized.†

We have taken the wooden candy canes out and they were painted at Marilyn Johnson’s house, by another group of lively ladies (or was that the same lively group?)† Anyway, they†really look great and are hanging in Marilyn’s garage drying until we can put them back†into the shed. Then in†until early December†we will decorate the town.† Actually November 14th will be the day that we decorate the Community Center so that it looks festive for the Holiday Gift Bazaar on the 16th.† Anyone can help decorate on the 14th, not just the few folks on the “team”.† Also the bough making and hanging is a lot of fun and with many hands to help. We should have everything in place by the first week of December.† Exact dates will follow.

The meeting in October at the Governor’s Mansion should be a good trip, with lunch to follow at Casa Gardens in Sacramento.† The Casa Gardens Restaurant, for those of you who may not know is a wonderful restaurant staffed by volunteers.† We will have our own room for our meeting and lunch.† The proceeds from all meals go the Sacramento Children’s Home.† So, not to miss out, get your checks into Ginger DeGregory by the 25th of September.† Hope to see you all there.

Donna Morrison

President

Garden Team

Fall officially arrives on 9/23.† I want to thank all those Team Members who have generously given of their time and expertise to help beautify our community throughout 2013.†

We have one more project to complete before winter sets in, and that is the planting of more bulbs on Daffodil Hill.† The bulbs have been ordered and should arrive the week of 9/23.† Then they will have to be chilled for about 2 weeks before actual planting, so I expect we will set a planting date around the 2nd or 3rd week of October.† We will need ad many of you Team members as possible on that date. (TBA).

I hear Pat Schoggins is doing as well as possible after her recent surgery.† Take it easy, Pat.† Also, thanks so much to her husband, Bob, for building the frame for the planter box at the Community Center Garden.

Marilyn Johnson was able to score a pick-up truck load of great organic soil at Front Yard Nursery, so Donna Morrison, Marilyn, Sue Granno and myself got our shovels, rakes and wheel barrows and filled the new planter box. We are now all set to start our winter garden.

Reminder, Sylvia and I will be retiring our leadership rolls so, we need another 1 or 2 new team leaders to fill the role.† We will help new leader(s) as much as possible. Please contact Sylvia or myself ASAP.†

Thanks,

†Leslie Sinclair and Sylvia Hamblin

P.S. After writing this article, I got the shock of seeing a good portion of Daffodil Hill destroyed by the new construction under way.† Be assured, Marilyn Johnson and I will soon be having a little “talk” with the construction crew.† I hope that we can get some cooperation.
