Hello DGC Members and welcome to fall!
Our October meeting was very well attended with 16 members attending our lunch meeting at Cascada and prior to that, some members taking the historical Placerville tour.
The most exciting news at the meeting was WE HAVE 2017 DGC BOARD NOMINATIONS!!! At the November meeting we will vote in:
President: Norma Ray
VP: Marilu Blau
Secretary: Alexa Mack
Treasurer: Carol McBride
There is a lot happening over the next several months with DGC:
Boys & Girls Club Christmas Store planning
Thursday, October 20, time- TBD, we need volunteers to help do an inventory of what they have for the store. We will put the “call” out to members and the community with their needs! Additionally, we will need volunteers for decorating and “manning” the store with our DGC “granny elves”.
Remember, “many hands make light work”!
Dogwood Community Donations
We will have about $1500 to give to local community organizations. A DGC meeting has been set for Tuesday, November 1, 1pm at the Old School House. The meeting is open to all Members. It would be helpful before the meeting if members could email suggestions to me. In your suggestion, besides the name of the organization state why they deserve the donation. What impact do they have on our community; who does the organization serve (i.e. low income, the community as a whole); where do they get their funding (i.e. fundraisers, community donations or none).
Western Slope Card Project
We are looking for more Christmas Cards. Mary Bourn will be organizing a fun-filled afternoon of helping the residents fill out cards. Mary will be looking for volunteers.
The Rotary Club Salvation Army Bell Ringers I was thinking about having DGC do one day for ringing the bell at Safeway, Sat or Sun starting Thanksgiving weekend to the weekend before Christmas. Shifts would be 2 hours with 2 people. Mary and I are going to do it again; we did it two years ago and had a blast! Find a friend and let’s help our community!
DGC Liaison with Rotary Interact Club
The Interact Kids are anxious to partner with the DGC on community service gardening projects. This would be a great opportunity to continue gardening areas like Daffodil Hill, help with the library maintenance and? The students could learn from our knowledge and we would have the physical help to do the projects. Please email Norma Ray if you can take this on for 2017.
Hugs to you all!
Maureen
