Bloomin’ News
April 2022
Hello Ladies,
As I write this it is snowing on the Dogwoods! Let’s hope for some more rain, so those weeds can grow. They grow faster than anything here in Pollock Pines!
Hard to believe that just last Wednesday we spent such a beautiful sunny day in Garden Valley at the Jollity Goat Farm. Those goats were so darn cute!! I think many of us wanted to take home one or two of them.
It was a good meeting in the shade of the trees. 23 members and guests attended, and we had two new members join us this month: Marcia Lawrence and Becky Ferguson. Welcome ladies!!
A few notes & Reminders on upcoming events~
Rummage Sale – Next month on Saturday, May 21st is our annual Rummage Sale located at the El Dorado Savings Bank parking lot. Mary Lou Katon is taking the lead this year and will be sending out an email shortly through our Mail Distribution Coordinator Becky Mc Intyre regarding details and items needed for donations.
Wagon Train – Dogwood Garden Club Booth. Root Beer Floats/BakeSale & Doggie Treats The Wagon Trail will roll into Pollock Pines on Friday, June 10th this year, with our friends & neighbors lining Pony Express Trail to welcome them into our historic town where the wagon trains rolled down our Pony Express Trail after many months on the cross country trails looking for a place to settle and start a new life. The wagon train is a historical reenactment of the “Great Western Migration of the 1800’s”. This year will be its 73rd year. If you’re interested in riding on the wagon train go to the “Highway 50 Wagon Train Association” for more info. Come on out for this fun event that lasts through the evening.
4th of July Parade – Bake Sale & Doggie Treats. We will be hosting a booth this year, location to be determined. We will be looking for volunteers to help with making baked goods and doggie treats. For the doggie treats we have the recipe and bone shaped cookie cutters you can borrow. They sell very well!
Gardens – Our new member Jan Roman-Gonzales is a Master Gardener. She will be our lead for the gardens we maintain around Pollock Pines. She has gone out to each of the sites to assess. Thank you Jan!!!
Shed Project – The Dogwood Garden Club has a storage shed at the community center. A few repairs need to be made, the outside wood scraped, and power washed. We have a committee who will be heading this up with some help from our hubby’s. We will wait for some better weather. If you would like to help us scrape the outside, let me know. More hands makes for faster completion. Our goal is to be done by mid May. The community center will then paint our shed when they paint their storage units.
We are looking for members who can help with the following:
Photographer, just take pictures! It would be nice to post pictures of our events on our website and facebook page.
Publishing, someone with these computer skills who can help with updating our club brochure.
Minutes of the April 6, 2022 meeting are attached below.
Our meeting ended with a raffle. Member Ginger DeGregory (Thank You Ginger) and myself donated the Spring items this month, with $121.00 being raised for the club. When asked how often we should do raffles at our meetings, several ladies said “at all of them”! Anyone wanting to donate items for May, let me know.
After the meeting we were given a brief history of the “Jollity Goat Farm” by husband and wife owners MaryLisa and Charley. They are the only dairy farm in El Dorado County. We had a great time with the goats, there are quite a few of them. The goat farm makes milk, cheese, dips, soaps and lotions from their milk. They had samples of the cheeses and dips with crackers and grapes. They have a “tiny store” where items could be purchased if desired. There were 7 baby goats at the farm that were 1 week old and under. We drew an extra 7 raffle tickets and the lucky winners were able to bottle feed the babies. After feeding the babies they were able to run around outside their pen for us to enjoy, play and cuddle with! I think a few of us will be going back for cheese and to play with the goats again!
