Bloomin’ News
August 2022
Hello Ladies,
A big “Thank You” to Carol & Bob Game for hosting another wonder meeting at their home in their beautiful backyard with 26 members attending.
We had 2 new guests, Kristine Osgood, a neighbor of Barbara’s and Sue Krall a neighbor of Sandra’s. Thank you ladies for coming and we hope you join us in our awesome, fun club!
We had a wonderful presentation from Greg of Folsom’s Green Acres store on plants for our climate zone. He brought many of these plants and some were raffled off. Greg answered many questions we all had.
Birthday Lunch was held this month at Annie’s Minosa’s in Placerville. Celebrating birthdays this month are Darbara Mahach, Donna Folts, Graces Rhoades, Karen Fryxell, Lea Snowden and Sylvia Hamblin. Happy Birthday Ladies!!
With Summer coming to an end soon we will be focusing on our Fall and Winter Activities & Fundraisers. It’s a busy time for all of us and we appreciate all the volunteers who sign up for the activities. Many hands make the tasks go faster! Please consider signing up for one or more of these fun activities! It’s a great way to work together, visit and get to know each other better. Sign up sheets will be available at our meetings, you can also email or text me if you like, or the lead directly.
Our Holiday Party this year will be a “Roaring Twenties” theme. Held on our December meeting date of December 7th, 2:00 pm at the Shakespeare Theater in Placerville. Music for listening and dancing, the venue does not serve alcohol but attendees can bring their own. Carol will confirm if it is just beer and wine or if hard liquor can also be brought on premise. Club member Allison Knight will be catering the buffet meal.
Consider HOSTING A TABLE We will be planning for 10 tables with 8 guests per table – anyone that would like to host a table please contact Carol G. directly.
The club will provide white table cloths for each table – the table host (with help from other table members if you like) will provide the table centerpieces with the roaring twenties theme. We are looking into if the club provides tableware or if we’ll have to have each table host bring items. Stay tuned!
Judy Morgan Park Clean-Ups will be held the second Saturday of October, November and December.
The Annual Holiday Craft Faire & Bake Sale we co host with the Community Center will be held this year Friday and Saturday, November 19-20th. Craft vendors and baked goods are needed. See attached minutes for more details. Norma, Jan and Carol G. will be our club leads & contacts.
Our Christmas Bough Making day this year will be Tuesday morning, November 22nd. We make these boughs each year and hang them up around town. Look for time in future communication, and it will be on the sign up sheet soon. Carol G. will be lead.
Breakfast with Santa sponsored by the Rotary Club will be held on Saturday, December 3rd from 9:00-11:30 am. Our club decorates the center on Thursday, December 1st and hosts the children’s craft table the day of the event. The crafts are prepackaged ornaments the children can take back to their tables and assemble. We take down the decorations after Christmas. Debbie will be lead.
Our members turn into “Granny Elves” for the Sierra Ridge Middle School Boys & Girls Club Holiday Store. The students in the club are able to shop for family members’ presents and wrap them with the help of the Granny Elves.Esh student then gets a cookie as they leave. Kay Campbell will be our lead for this event.
We will be sponsoring a tree again this year for the Trees for Teens program in late November, early December. Proceeds from the event goes to teen programs in our community. We will decorate our “Dogwood Garden Club” tree for the season, then remove the lights & ornaments/decorations when a day is set. We are looking for a lead!
Gardening
The entrance to Jenkinson Lake has been completely updated, multiple people commented on how nice it looks. The memory garden at the Pinewood School still has issues with watering, Jan is going to contract the administration again to see if they will water or if they even want to continue the garden. Thank you Jan for all your help getting these projects done and off the ground.
Pollock Pines/Camino Post Office Clean-Up – Leslie Sinclair needs 3 volunteers to assist with the clean-up, the commitment is only 2hrs/month, if you can help contact Leslie directly.
I’m looking to do a special club project using 20 small succulent plants, 3” pot size. If anyone has succulents that they can take cuttings from please let me know. If you have small 3” pots you could put them in that would be great, if not, I will take the cutting and pot them.
The club will be taking Nominations for our 2023 Board thru October. Elections will be at our November meeting. If you have any nominations you would like to make for President, Vice President, Secretary or Treasurer, please bring them to the September and October meetings. You can also send them to any board member through email or text.
For marketing items for our club, Colleen Ferrari’s sister has created artwork for our logo. Carol recommended that we have canvas bags printed, and possibly hats embroidered with the logo and sell them at our events and will get prices. We are in need of an update for our club brochures. I’ve asked Collen if she would check with her sister to help with this. We will also be looking into new banners.
Grizzly Flat’s resident Kathy Adams had contacted us for possible help with plantings for their town devastated by the Caldor Fire. A few of us meet with her to find or just how we may help. Please see the attached minutes for more information on this.
Our October meeting will have our next and final raffle for the year. Please consider donating a raffle prize. Maybe something BEE related! Our presentation will be Beekeeping given by John Havicon who owns Bluestone Meadow where we went a few months ago for the lavender presentation. He is also a member of the El Dorado Beekeepers. Bees pollinate our fields, orchards and gardens – providing nearly one third of the food we eat. Our gardens help keep the declining bee population going!
Attached below are the minutes from the August 3, 3022 meeting. August 2022 minutes.docx
