Bloomin’ News, April 2023

Hello Ladies,

The last of the snow has melted, finally!  The predicted weather for this coming Tuesday keeps changing between snow and rain, 30-40% chance.  If it needs to do that, let’s hope for rain!

Even with our unpredictable weather last week, our trip to Jollity Goat Farm did turn out to be a nice day.  It was a good meeting in the sun/shade of the trees with 20 members attending, including our 3 new members, Donna Barrese, Susan Cross and Linda Seilhymer.   Valerie Laam brought her sister Denise as a guest. Welcome ladies!!

Details on the Treasurer Report, Sunshine, and Birthday Lunch (we have 13 birthdays this month) are in the minutes that are attached as well as an update on Judy Morgan Park Clean Ups and the “Community Volunteer Campaign” that CEDAPP is spearheading. Also included in the Minutes are the locations of our meetings for the year.

I have also posted the minutes below the Bloomin’ News in this email as some members are not able to open them due to different computer programs.

A few notes & reminders on upcoming events~

Rummage Sale – The May & October Rotary Rummage Sale has been canceled.  This year it will be held June-September.  It needs to be decided in what month we will hold our annual Rummage Sale.  Mary Lou Katon is taking the lead again this year. We will let you know ASAP as to the month in which we will participate, then an email will go out shortly through our Mail Distribution Coordinator Barbara O’Sullivan regarding details and items needed for donations.

Wagon Train – Dogwood Garden Club Booth will be hosting  its Annual Bake Sale and Doggie Treats. The Wagon Trail will roll into Pollock Pines on Friday, June 9th this year, with our friends and neighbors lining Pony Express Trail to welcome them into our historic town where the wagon trains rolled down our Pony Express Trail after many months on the cross country trails looking for a place to settle and start a new life. The wagon train is a historical reenactment of the “Great Western Migration of the 1800’s”.  This year will be its 74th  year. If you’re interested in riding on the wagon train go to the “Highway 50 Wagon Train Association” for more info.  There are different days of its journey that you can ride.  Two years ago Cathy Staller and I rode from Fresh Pond to the Community Center! Come on out for this fun event that lasts through the evening with craft vendors, pony rides & crafts for the kids, food and more!

4th of July Parade – Bake Sale & Doggie Treats. We will be hosting a booth again this year, we will be located in front of Pony Express Shipping, Thank You Bill & Susan Cross! We will be looking for volunteers to help with making baked goods and doggie treats.  For the doggie treats we have the recipe and bone shaped cookie cutters you can borrow.  Ruff!!

Shed Project – Update, our shed project was completed last year with scraping paint, power washing and new paint.  Inside was given a cleaning as well as purging items and reorganized.  Thank you to our members and their husbands!

We are looking for members who can help with the following~

Photographer, take pictures!  It would be nice to post pictures of our events on our website and facebook page. Ron Hurst, husband of Debbie, has volunteered to take pictures at events.  We need someone to take pictures at our meetings & activities.  Sign up sheet is at all meetings.

Our meeting ended with a raffle.  Several members donated the Spring items this month, with $123.00 being raised for the club.  Raffles will be held this year in April, July and October.  Please consider donating.  Thank you!

After the meeting we were given a brief history of the “Jollity Goat Farm” by husband and wife owners MaryLisa and Charley.  They are the only dairy farm in El Dorado County. We had a great time with the goats, there are quite a few of them. The goat farm makes milk, cheese, dips, soaps and lotions from their milk. They had samples of the cheeses with crackers. They have a “tiny store” where items could be purchased if desired.  The farm is open to the public and is a great place to spend a few hours with the grandchildren or just us ladies!  Check out their website for more information.

Just for fun, I’ve also included below some “garden” events taking place in the coming weeks.

Minutes of the April 5, 2023 meeting are here. Please review for more details of the meeting.  Approval of these minutes will be approved at our May meeting.
