BLOOMIN’ NEWS
February 2023
Hello Ladies,
It was good to see so many of you attend our first meeting of the year on Wednesday, February 1st with 38 in attendance. We welcomed Laurel Foster and Betsy Kerr, guests of Leslie Sinclair and Rose Mary O’Mally, guest of Lexa Mack as well as our new members Linda Seilhymer, Billie Wood and Susan Cross. Thank you again to Sandra Morgan and the Pollock Pines Community Church for hosting our meeting. Sandra, we appreciate all the work you do to get our meetings get up and running. Thank you everyone for providing your delicious soups, salads and desserts for the potluck!
Our new board this year is the following:
President – Debbie Bybee-Crumpley
Vice President – Carol Game
Secretary – Barbara O’Sullivan
Treasurer – Maryann Trujillo
Our new board worked in the month of January to plan the coming year’s fundraisers, events and activities. An email was sent out January 8th with information of the optional Membership Planning Meeting that was held Friday, January 20th. You could either attend or email your ideas and or input for the coming year. Thank you to those who did! This proposed plan was discussed at the February meeting, with discussion resulting in a few changes. In the plan there are 4 Fundraisers, 7 Events & Activities, 8 Club Coordinators and our Garden Committee. Each of these has a “Lead” and volunteers. I know it’s early and we don’t always know what the year will bring, but we still have plenty of vacant Lead positions available. Please consider signing up for one or more. If you’re new at it, there is plenty of knowledge from members to help you! Clipboards for each of these were available before & after the meeting for members to sign up for their favorite(s) …. 1,2,3 or more!! This is an ongoing process and there is always plenty of room for leads & volunteers. We will have at each monthly meeting the sign up sheets for the next few months coming events.
We are looking for a coordinator(s) for the following:
Publicity – Getting the word out for our Fundraisers/Events & Activities
If interested let me know.
All present were agreeable to the proposed plan but wanted to go back to the goat farm. A lot of enthusiasm for those baby goats!! So we did a swap, added that in and we will be going back to Jollity Goat Farm for our April meeting.
Our next meeting, March 1 will be a fundraiser raffle. We are looking for donations, if interested please contact me. Some ideas for donated items could be something goat related or Easter as this year it’s April 9th. New items please. Thank you in advance!
Our raffles this year will be in March, July and October.
A lot of fun is in store for us this year, meetings in our nicer weather months will be located outdoors. Next month’s meeting notice and Bloomin’ News will have the 2023 meetings listed as we get final confirmations.
Our August meeting will be a luau at Carol Game’s home. It will be a potluck, we’re looking to see if we can maybe have the main dish catered and potluck the side dishes and desserts. Stay tuned for updates.
I know it’s early, but just want to let you know that our December Holiday Christmas Party/Luncheon will be held Wednesday, December 6th, location TBD. Our theme this year is “1849 Country Christmas”. Consider dressing up, as always dressing to the theme is OPTIONAL! We will again be asking members to host a table centerpiece. Get your thinking caps on, visit Pinterest and other fun sites for ideas. Sign ups will be in the coming months. Depending on location we plan to have Opus back with his great music. Spouses/Significant Others are welcome to join the festivities.
“Thank You” to Becky McIntyre for serving this year as Email Distribution Coordinator. Your time in sending out members emails when needed is very much appreciated! Becky will still be our Website Coordinator.
NEW email Coordinator this year will be Barbara O’Sullivan: bosullivan500@gmail.com
Our membership dues are an important portion of our yearly budget. Dues are due by today, February 15th. If you already have “THANK YOU”, if not, please consider staying part of our Dogwood friends! Make checks out to the “Dogwood Garden Club” and mail to PO Box 1074 Pollock Pines, CA 95726. Dues are $30.00 a year, or $45.00 if you would like the Bloomin’ News sent to your mailing address. We appreciated each and every one of you! If not paid by February 15th names will be removed from membership roster. If you do renew you will be added back on.
Please find attached the Minutes for our February 1st meeting, provided by our secretary Barbara O’Sullivan. I’ve attached 2 different versions of it so hopefully everyone can open them. In it you will find more detailed information from the meeting as well as a report of our 2022 fundraising activities with the dollar amount we raised for each event. Birthdays, Birthday Lunch and Sunshine information also. Thank you everyone for all your efforts, help and dedication to making last year a great success! Everything you do is very much appreciated!!
