Hello Ladies,
Spring/Summer may be here! We all know it kind of goes from 50 degrees to 80 in about 2 weeks! Snow on the dogwoods not long ago so now on to this wonderful warm weather. Let’s hope for a mild summer.
I know a lot of us are enjoying being outside and playing in the dirt, after a long winter and a lot of yard clean up!
We have a new member, Ginger Swigart. Welcome Ginger!!
Details on the Treasurer Report and Birthday Lunch are in the minutes that are attached. Birthdays celebrated this month are: Amy Rath, Colleen Ferrari, Janel Edmiston, Judy Magness, Leslie Sinclair, Patty Noble and Sandra Morgan. “Happy Birthday” ladies!!
I have also posted the minutes below the Bloomin’ News in this email as some members are not able to open them due to different computer programs.
Despite the cool weather just 2 weeks ago, our trip to McKinley Rose Garden in downtown Sacramento was a beautiful sunny day. We had just 8 members in attendance but we were rewarded with the most outstanding beautiful roses in bloom. A favorite, Catsup & Mustard, with beautiful red and yellow flowers. Several art class students were in the garden with their instructor painting the colorful plants.
After the meeting, and a walk through the garden, several members went out to lunch at nearby restaurants.
With the warmer weather here also brings us in summer and the beginning of several events & activities.
Our next meeting, June 7th, will be held at the new Green Acres Nursery location in Roseville. Our friend Greg, whom we’ve had as a guest speaker in the past, is now working at this new store. He will again be helping us with what plants are best suited for our climate up here, information on composting, and answer any questions, as we all usually have many! Before or after the meeting feel free to snoop around all the wonderful selection of plants and garden related items they have.
After the meeting those who would like to go to lunch together can meet up at a location to be determined. Or, head out to your favorite restaurants and stores in the area.
Please be on the lookout for another email as a reminder that donations are needed for our upcoming Rummage Sale on Saturday, June 17th. Donations can be dropped off to JC Lewis’s house, she lives off Forebay Rd. closer to the lake. Call JC for your drop off at (530) 647-6139. You may also bring your items the morning of the event. I will continue to post here our upcoming summer events & activities. Please consider signing up for one or more.
A few notes & Reminders on upcoming events~
Wagon Train – Dogwood Garden Club Booth will be hosting its Annual Bake Sale & Doggie Treats. The Wagon Trail will roll into Pollock Pines on Friday, June 9th this year, with our friends & neighbors lining Pony Express Trail to welcome them into our historic town where the wagon trains rolled down our Pony Express Trail after many months on the cross country trails looking for a place to settle and start a new life. The wagon train is a historical reenactment of the “Great Western Migration of the 1800’s”. This year will be its 74th year. If you’re interested in riding on the wagon train go to the “Highway 50 Wagon Train Association” for more info. There are different days of its journey that you can ride. 2 years ago Cathy Staller and I rode from Fresh Pond to the Community Center! Come on out for this fun event that lasts through the evening with craft vendors, pony rides & crafts for the kids, food and more!
Rummage Sale – Our Rummage Sale will be held next month on Saturday, June 17th. Donations can be dropped off ahead of time to JC Lewis’s home located off Blair Rd, closer to Forebay Rd. An email from Mary Lou & Colleen went out through our Distribution Coordinator Barbara O’Sullivan a few weeks ago regarding details and items needed for donations. Look for another one soon as a reminder. You may also drop off your items early the morning of the event.
4th of July Parade – Bake Sale & Doggie Treats. We will be hosting a booth again this year, we will be located in front of Pony Express Shipping, Thank You Bill & Susan Cross! We will be looking for volunteers to help with making baked goods. We have 2 members signed up to make the doggie treats. Ruff!!
National Night Out –
If we can get a few volunteers to sign up for a booth at National Night Out scheduled for Tuesday, August 1, we can do it this year. Our goal is to have new brochures and banners done so we have a united marketing brand. This would be an informational booth only with members on hand to tell about our club as a membership recruitment effort. Sign up at our next few meetings or email me.
We are looking for members who can help with the following~
Photographer, take pictures! It would be nice to post pictures of our events on our website and Facebook page. Ron Hurst, husband of Debbie, has volunteered to take pictures at events. We need someone to take pictures at our meetings & activities. Sign up sheet is at all meetings.
Towards the end of August I will start posting the fall events & activities details for the balance of the year.
