BLOOMIN’ NEWS
September 2022
Hello Ladies!
Unfortunately, our September 7th meeting was canceled due to the unseasonably hot weather. Today as I write this it’s rained this morning and hopefully we will get some in the next few days.
I’m going to take this opportunity for this month’s Bloomin’ News to again go over the planned events for the balance of the year, which seems like our busiest. It’s a packed agenda of events for just 3 short months! Please feel free to contact me or any of the leads to volunteer.
Our October 5th meeting will have our final raffle for the year. Please consider donating a raffle prize. Maybe something BEE related! Our presentation will be on Beekeeping, given by John Havicon who owns Bluestone Meadow where we went a few months ago for the lavender presentation. He is also a member of the El Dorado Beekeepers. Bees pollinate fields, orchards and gardens – providing nearly one third of the food we eat. Our gardens help keep the declining bee population going!
Judy Morgan Park Clean-Ups will be held the second Saturday; October 8, November 12 and December 10. For each clean up we will be using 6 yard debris boxes with a lid that will be locked to prevent further dumping. No more taking the green waste to the dump or home!! We need volunteers for the November 12th day.
The Annual Holiday Craft Faire & Bake Sale we co host with the Community Center will be held this year Friday and Saturday, November 18th-19th. Craft vendors and baked goods are needed. Norma, Jan and Carol G. will be our club leads & contacts.
Our Christmas Bough Making day this year will be Tuesday morning, November 22nd. We make these boughs each year and hang them up around town. Look for time in future communication, and it will be on the sign up sheet soon. Carol G. will be lead.
Breakfast with Santa sponsored by the Rotary Club will be held on Saturday, December 3rd from 9:00-11:30 am. Our club decorates the center on Thursday, December 1st and hosts the children’s craft table the day of the event. The crafts are prepackaged ornaments the children can take back to their tables and assemble. We take down the decorations after Christmas. I will be the lead.
Our members turn into “Granny Elves” for the Sierra Ridge Middle School Boys & Girls Club Holiday Store. The students in the club are able to shop for family members’ presents and wrap them with the help of the Granny Elves. Each student then gets a cookie as they leave. Kay Campbell will be our lead for this event.
Our Holiday Party this year will be a “Roaring Twenties” theme. It will be held on our December meeting date of December 7th, 2:00 pm at the Shakespeare Theater in Placerville. There will be music for listening and dancing. The venue does not serve alcohol but attendees can bring their own. Carol will confirm if it is just beer and wine or if hard liquor can also be brought on premise. Club member Allison Knight will be catering the Buffet meal.
We are in need of table hosts to provide the centerpieces, that’s it! Those of you who are awesome as crafters or just have a creative spirit for this kind of thi ng, please consider. There are a lot of ideas on Pinterest. Black and Gold colors, does not have to be elaborate! We will be planning for 10 tables with 8 guests per table. Anyone that would like to host a table centerpiece at your table please contact Carol G. directly.
The club will provide white table cloths for each table – the table host (with help from other table members if you like) will provide the table centerpieces with the roaring twenties theme. We will provide the plates, glasses, and cutlery. Stay tuned!
We will be sponsoring a tree again this year for the Trees for Teens program in late November, early December. Proceeds from the event goes to teen programs in our community. We will decorate our “Dogwood Garden Club” tree for the season, then remove the lights & ornaments/decorations when a day is set. We are looking for a lead!
So In Preparation of Next Year, 2023!
The club will be taking nominations for our 2023 Board thru October. Elections will be at our November meeting. If you have any nominations you would like to make for President, Vice President, Secretary or Treasurer, please bring them to the October meeting. You can also send them to any board member through email or text; Debbie, Carol, Norma or Maureen.
As always, we do so thank you so very much for your community spirit, and in the joy of giving back to our community. AND, we hope that you are also having fun with us on our journey of this giving.
See you at the October 5th meeting! ??
Debbie
